I needed something to do today that didn't require much thought, so I decided to start the body work on the PBR Climax from Shapeways. When I first got the model, I was upset that there was quite a lot of clean up that needed done. Now, I'm okay with it, as the sanding, filing and scraping are pretty easy. You need "swizzle sticks" they are thin sanding sticks mounted on semi rigid foam, like a super thin emery board. You can see on the fireman's side what the "before" looks like. Some pieces broke off, and some I removed on purpose. I can add details back in later. This handy model will drop down on top of a Life Like GP18. Of course, the pistons and drive line won't work, but I'm okay with that, considering with the GP18 and the body, I only have about $70 invested! If you were wondering, I only have about 3 hours total into this project so far. It's possible then, to have an HOn30 Climax running in a weekend for less than the cost of an N scale diesel!
Yes, I know PBR stands for Puffing Billy Railway, but I don't model New Zealand, I model 'Murica!
